Petchi Dream Passage
A laboratory and office building in Tokyo by Takenaka Design Division, where the entry from ground level and vertical fins respond to the landscape, studied in 2015
Petchi Dream Passage creates a sinuous connection inside an office and laboratory building for a Japanese pharmaceutical company that opens to Tokyo Bay. The passage mediates a 2 meter step in elevation toward the waterfront that pinches and culminates into an expansive view. It softly unfolds from the entrance on the first floor along the curtain wall. The ground plane splits to reconcile the topography and inclines one arm to reach the auditorium foyer and bay view. The other creates a pocket that becomes increasingly private as it carves deeper into the earth. This work reflects site visits and consultations with structural engineers and the client, as well as studies for the entry sequence and the discretization of the curved facade.
