Master and Form
An exhibition design for artist Brendan Fernandes’ performance series at the Graham Foundation for Advanced Studies in the Fine Arts with Norman Kelley, completed in 2018
The Master and Form exhibition design embodies the tension between the ballet dancer’s rigorous training, discipline and grace, as objects that lift, harness and obstruct. Ballet positions are reimagined to interact with sculptural devices and light structures. Performances by ballet dancers from the Joffrey Academy of Dance, including Satoru Iwasaki, Yuha Kamoto, Andrea de León Rivera, Antonio Mannino and Leah Upchurch, activate the pieces and space between. They perform in, on and around them.
